Advocacy within the NSGH
For the NSGH, advocacy includes actively influencing policy and acting as an opinion maker for policymakers, professionals and the wider public. In addition, we offer a solid knowledge base on core themes in global health for our members, partners and interested parties.
Our advocacy is based on three fundamental principles:
- Human rights
- The right to health
- Humanitarian law of war
These universal values form the frame of reference for our positions and actions, both nationally and internationally.
Themes we stand for
Our advocacy focuses on issues that are central to global health. We focus on topics such as:
Access to good healthcare for everyone (health equity)
We advocate fair access to healthcare, regardless of place of residence, socio-economic background, gender, origin or migration status. This applies both to global health issues and to topics that are relevant in the Netherlands.
Responsible and equitable international cooperation
We emphasise the importance of sustainable partnerships, focused on:
- capacity building
- exchange of knowledge
- fair financing models
- transparent and reciprocal cooperation between institutions
Good partnership
The NSGH is actively committed to cooperation that is appropriate to the current era of global health, in which equality, shared ownership and the correction of old power relations are central.
Who are we doing this for?
The NSGH's advocacy focuses on:
- Policy makers and politics
- Partner organisations and social networks
- Members and professionals in the field
- The general public, which benefits from reliable information and interpretation
The Advocacy Committee plays a pivotal role in this: it identifies developments, initiates positions, coordinates activities and involves members in current issues.
