According to the latest estimate, there are around 35,000 undocumented migrants in the Netherlands. Some of them manage to find their feet in Dutch society. For example, they earn an income through undeclared work and have stable living arrangements. However, there are also people who are unable to support themselves. Out of necessity, they therefore live on the streets, in derelict buildings, or drift from one shelter to another. Often, they are unable to return to their country of origin.
LHV General Practitioners’ Association, Amsterdam and surrounding areas: A large city like Amsterdam is home to a charming and highly diverse population, including a group of people without official documents and/or who are homeless. They wander through the city or live in shelters. Due to their way of life, both groups suffer from health problems at a higher rate than average and often require easily accessible GP care. Unfortunately, there are still very few colleagues who register and help these patients. We urgently appeal to all GPs in Amsterdam to do their bit and register these patients! Many hands make light work!
