The Netherlands Society for Global Health (NSGH) wishes to set up a new working group to support doctors with foreign qualifications who are new to the Netherlands as they find their feet in the Dutch healthcare system. To this end, we are looking for enthusiastic members who would like to contribute their ideas and help build this initiative.
The working group will work closely with other organisations that help foreign healthcare professionals settle in the Netherlands (initial exploratory discussions with these organisations have already taken place). The current plan is for the working group to focus on practical support, complementing the work of existing organisations. Examples include:
- Medical Dutch practise (e.g. language buddies for medical terminology and communication)
- Preparation for the Professional Knowledge (BI) test, This is required in order to obtain BIG registration. (studying together, contributing to courses or developing teaching materials – in collaboration with KCGH)
- A guide to the Dutch healthcare system (work placements, coaching and discussions on cultural differences in healthcare)
In addition, we also want to explore how the knowledge and experience of newcomers – often gained in other healthcare systems or crisis contexts – can help to strengthen Global Health within the NSGH, KCGH and OIG partnership.
The working group will begin by exploring what is genuinely needed and what is feasible for a group of committed volunteers. From there, we will build a sustainable initiative step by step.
Would you like to contribute your ideas or get involved? We’d love to hear from you.
